There is a JD 145F 3-14 for sale in the paper for $250 obo. My soil is essentially all sand. Is this too much plow for the soil with this tractor? Also I assume it has a class 2 hitch setup, does one just change out the attachment on the plow to make it a class 1 or is this a bad idea?
Thanks

Doctor:

The general rule of thumb is 15hp / plow share. Your 4630 nets out to about 45hp, so you should be in good shape, especially if your soil is easily tilled.

As far as converting from Cat. I to Cat. II, you may be able to get by with a quick hitch. Some quick hitches are adaptable to either Cat. I or II. Supposedly my SpeeCo quick hitch can do this, although I've never had an opportunity to try it out.

Sounds like a good buy. Good luck!

I don't think that plow would has a cat. 2 hitch, it more than likely has a cat. 1. Check it to see.

The neighbour has a 3 furrow Kverland that is Cat 1.

Bushings won't help, his tractor is Cat 1.

You may find you have more power than you can put to the ground so the plow may still be too large. My L4310 will pull 2 14's pretty well but our ground is tight. CUT's suffer from light weight sometimes. You might be able to pull it if you have 4wd.

I do have the 4WD but have R4 tires not ag. I called the guy. He doesn't know what size the hook up is, but said he used it on his 3020. It is reportedly in good shape but he doesn't have a hydraulic ram on it . It is about 30 min from here so I will probably go look at it. Anything special I need to watch out for?

Yes, and those bushing aren't going to help with that 6 inch vertical difference, are they? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Maybe I've been working a little too close to the solvent tray. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

6" vertical difference? I guess, but most stuff doesn't rigidly follow the SAE rules. The bushhog and snow blower here have cat 1 / cat 2 hookup, just the pins flopped around on either side and the top link about 3" higher on the cat 2.
