What size of a blade do I need for my mahindra 3316 tractor ? Would 6 ft be long enough ? What about a Hella are they a good blade ? Oh the questions .

There are MANY brands of good blades. I guess you are speaking of a rear blade?? For whatever you are planning to do with the blade - weight is your friend.

I have a Land Pride RB3596 - 96" wide, will angle, will tilt, will offset and weighs 565#. Its well constructed but not really that heavy. Heavy would be 850# or more. I do have a square concrete block(400#) that I can set & lock on this rear blade if I need the extra weight - which is very seldom.

I use this blade almost 100% for clearing snow off the driveway & yard.

The rear blade should be as wide as your rear tread width, at least. My rear tread is 80" - when pulled straight behind the tractor and only angled is will just cover the 80". However, I alway angle AND offset the blade and it this case it DOES NOT completely cover the 80". Its close enough and does a good job - so I'm happy with it. To completely cover the 80" tread width when angled and offset the blade would have to be 108" and I really don't want/need something that big.

Not familiar with the Hella brand and for whatever reason, when I Google "Hella", all I get is windshield wiper blades - ha,ha.

For a snow plow you want it to be at least as wide as the tractor when the blade is angled. This way your tires are on the ground and not driving through un-plowed snow. I would guess a 7 or 7 1/2' plow would be a better choice. Here's a link to a member with the same tractor who installed a 6 1/2' plow. You may want to contact him to see how his is working out, if he made any changes, and if 6 1/2' is wide enough when angled.

My tractor is 66" wide and my 7 1/2' blade covers the tracks when angled.

As other said cover your tire thread at 45 degree setting.
Woods make darn good rear blade.
Have you check out rear blade that will slide left or right, works great when ditching etc. tractor always on level ground, also can be use as wing to push back snow banks.

Really need to know two things.

1. Front or rear blade.
2. Usage. (Dirt or snow or both?)

Thanks . I should have said it is a front blade to be used for snow removal .

I use a 5' on the front of my little JD2210. The tractor measures 48" wide. It's barely wide enough. Wish it had another 6".

For a front blade for snow you want a little wider than your tires so it's just wide enough to cover your tracks when angled. I'm sure their are a few tricks to run a much wider blade. But for the typical home owner getting a blade that is too wide will just push you around on the machine. Front chains will help too.
If you find a used one that is a lot bigger I've seen lots of posts here where folks have cut the blade down.
How has the machine been treating you? I have the newer model number of that machine.
