I have a Bobcat CT230 tractor (30hp engine - 22hp @PTO) I live on the sandiest soil I have ever seen other than at the beach, so the grass isn't very thick. I rotate pastures and after I move the horses to the next pasture I mow the remaining grass/weeds down to 4". I'm tired of bouncing with my 54" mower. I'm looking at using a finish mower behind my tractor.
How big can I go? I'm assuming I can power a 72" mower... can I bump it up to 84"?
Who makes the most cost effective mower? I want this thing to last - but I don't want to spend a ton of money on it.
I saw one 72" model that had three blades with a swinging tip similar to what you see on a rotary cutter. Is this a good concept? I like the forgiveness factor if you hit something hard - but part of the design of a mower blade is to create lift to get the grass to stand up, I'm assuming this would effect that.
