Hello all! I am looking at two cultipackers priced around the same. I am trying to decide which one best fits my needs. One is 8ft and the other is 7ft. Both packers are pull type. Both packers are the sprocket wheels between smooth wheels. My main use would be for food plots ranging in size from 1/8 acre to 2-3 acres. Some flat ground, some hills. Most likely be pulling it with Kubota m5040 or 4 wheeler when applicable.

The 8 footer is priced at $400 and the 7 footer is priced at $450. Both prices are firm and both are about an hour drive one way. If you were thinking about doing food plots which size would be best? Thanks!

For game plots you do not want the Cultipacker any wider than your rear tire width. You will be working through tree and boulder gaps; you want the Cultipacker to follow your tractor through the gaps obediently. The is especially true for towed Cultipackers which require more maneuvering room than 3-Pt hitch mounted Cultipackers.

Me personally, I would probably get the 7ft and see if I could adapt a 3pt hitch to it. If your food plots are spread out over a sizable area, you'll put a lot extra wear on it just towing it from plot to plot. As noted by Jeff, the narrower it is, the tighter the areas it will get into but I am sure you already knew that.

If the 7ft turned out to be too heavy to lift with the 3pt, you could consider removing some of the plates on the ends and maybe fill in the gap's left with piping or some kind of homemade spacers. I would think that a M5040 would be able to pick up a 7ft cultipacker though. I have a3pt 5 1/2 ft single row cultipacker and my little 30hp JD picks it up just fine. Having it on a 3pt hitch is essential for the places I put food plots in.

Either of those machines would be fine for what you are doing. I agree, 3 point conversion would be nice. If they have been broke or old welds on either cast end or is missing the end caps, they would be hard to resell. Ken Sweet
