Purchased a used 03 TC 5600 in Jan 10 and am having what I think is drive motor issues. We bought this unit without much info about them, (we have owned Bobcat skidloaders/Kubota Engines etc) guess we should have done more research prior to purchase. Machine has 1950 hrs on it. We've only used it for about 40 hrs and really enjoyed what it can/could do.

1-Can someone send me to a link as to how to determine what series I may have? A,B C or D??
2- What can I expect to pay to have these motors 2? replaced?
3- Are these machines seemingly unreliable as there are many posts on TBN of owners with multiple issues?
4- I have no operators manual, so should I purchase one? Are they available?

What a way to start off on a new Site. Thanks TBN

"D" series started in 2007 so you can rule that one out. I'd guess you have an "A" or "B".

I have both the Users Manual and Service Manual. I've used them both but the SM is expensive...but since you've owned Bobcat equipment in the past that shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

You mention some great topics...I think I've seen threads on every one you mention, so the search function might be helpful unless somebody has the info on the tip of their mind.

Based on my 'first' B series purchase in December of 04, I'm going to 'guess' that you have an 'A' series. The only way to tell for certain is to call the dealer with your serial number. Also, while the Service Manul is not cheap, it is far cheaper than the Serice Manuals for my CAT and Case Loaders which were over $200.00 each.

The A series had the single, box beam lift arm. Was 46-48 hp and no turbo. Started in 2003 to mid 2004.

The B series had the single box beam lift arm. Could be 48 hp non-turbo or 56 hp turbo. Only the turbo had high flow option. Started mid 2004 to Aug 2005.

The C series had the change with dual beam lift arms and a change in the tilt linkage to get better roll back power for some attachments. Started around Sept 05.

The D series started in 2007 and had independant suspension and spine frame. The 5610 3 pt version is a D series.

Bobcat had a run of bad drive motors from the supplier. I believe it was the B series. Many were replaced by bobcat even out of warranty. Might see if yours is one of the serial numbers that had issues. If it is, you may get Bobcat to pay for the entire repair or at least pay for parts. Whine, cry, beg ect if you machine is know to have the issues. The motors and labor are expensive. The other problem with bad drive motors is you may have metal shavings in the system that will foul up other areas. I have not heard of a drive motor issue with any D series which is a very different system for the other series.

The reliability issue is because of the extreme hydraulics and associated electrical issues. Our ag tractors face the same electrical, and computer issues. Treat the boom with a little respect. They can be bent or twisted if use a corner of bucket to lift or push too hard.

Operator's manual can be ordered from Bobcat. Not too expensive. The service and parts manuals are pricey.

do a search on this site - i researched this in detail - bad supply of motors from italy that had brass breaking loose. they can test your hyd oil for metal shavings.

I've bought Toolcat manuals on eBay before (brand new in the wrapper). Cheaper than the dealer.

Over time I've tried to compile a little data on the different series Toolcat 5600's and so far this is what I've come up with. If someone has other data or corrections to this, please let me know.

I hope this helps, DEWFPO

I can't change the attachment when I update it so here is a link to the most Updated Spreadsheet : http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l304/dewfpo/343484eb.jpg

I think I might have a manual for you. I'll try to remember to look when I'm back at the shop.

Radman, I know from unfortunate personal experience that the 'C' series had the metal filings problem. It was the early manufacture units, so the problem might have extended into the last of the 'B' units, I don't know. But it sounds from the previous comments that Grassman's may be a 'A' series.

Dewfpo, one little, but very visual, difference that you might add between the 'C' and 'D' series is that the fuel cap moved from passenger side on the C to driver's side on the D.
