I must have 50 or 100 of these:
27gal-tote.JPG

I've tried numerous labeling systems and all tend to fall off in the heat and humidity of Mississippi.
I had been using painters tape and a sharpie, but then had the labels fall off after 2 weeks.
So I'm wanting to paint a number on the black sides, spray paint white or orange with a stencil.
What's the best rattle can paint to stick to that type of plastic?

^ looks to be the most convenient.

Sharpie will stay on the yellow lid.

Use an index card tied to the lid for a label, but will get knocked off eventually.

There are spray paints designed for plastic, but stencils are a pain.

Thanks for looking BUT
Why is it when someone asks for a specific item the responses are not what was asked for.
I've used stencils a lot, they are not a pain to me when marking boxes with big flat surfaces.
Lids don't always stay with the boxes.
I want nice BIG numbers.
There are a lot of types of paint.

On light colored totes, I use a black chisel tip Sharpie.

On dark colored totes, I use a silver chisel tip Sharpie.

A lot of folks don’t know about the silver Sharpies. Many years ago a mechanic friend and coworker showed me. Invaluable for marking black metal parts.

Most Sharpies can be had in different sized tips to suite your needs.

I think we have over 150 totes, all numbered, and all entered in a spread sheet so we know what’s in the boxes, and where they’re located (old basement, new basement, storage garage, etc.).

About 12 for Christmas, 6-7 for Halloween, 5-6 for Easter, lots of craft items, keepsakes, etc. Swimsuits, beach towels, my old farm toys, Tonka trucks, games, puzzles… lots O stuff! 🙃

First wipe the area with LACQUER THINNER. I myself use gas, but that's me. Also, can use gorilla tape as a background. The plastic outgasses and is why your other tape fell off. Gorilla tape comes in colors.

As far as paint, KRYLON FUSION is made for painting plastic yard furniture. Still use lacquer thinner to clean where you paint. I've been in the military and that's how it's done. Wall Marks has it. It's a rattle can spray paint. Painted my south Arkansas hood with it a few years ago.

Yes, that silver sharpie is nice for dark things. It stays too.

Thanks,
Krylon fusion for plastic linky must be new and is going for about $40/can, or 12 ounces. That's almost military pricing.
I went for the old style at Walmart ~ $7/can. linky
