What lubricant for front axle?

I own a 2009 JD 4320, and the front axle lubricant is low. It's not even on the stick. I can't seem to find what kind of oil to use in the operators manual. I have a gallon of transmission/hydraulic fluid that I bought from the dealer a few months ago. It says it meets John Deere standard JDM J20C.

Is this safe to use in the front axle or do I need something else?

To clarify, the oil I have is JD HY-GARD transmission and hydraulic oil. It says it is used to protect JD transmissions, final drives and hydraulic systems.

Well, I consider my front axle to be a "final drive". However, I thought it might make more sense to use gear oil rather than hy-gard.

Your thoughts?

Your manual should specifiy somewhere what lube to use in the front differential. Check again where it tells about changing the front diff oil. I'd figure it would use the JD Hy-Gard but I'd check with a JD dealer to be sure if you still can't find it in the manual.

My 2320 used GL-5 gear lube..

Straight from the manual:

Transmission and Hydraulic Oil
IMPORTANT: Avoid damage! Use recommended oil only. Do not use engine oil or type F automatic transmission fluid.

Choose oil viscosity based on the expected air temperature range during the period between oil changes.

John Deere Low Viscosity HY-GARD transmission/hydraulic fluid is recommended. John Deere HY-GARD transmission/hydraulic fluid may also be used for temperatures above -18 deg C (0 deg F).

Other oils may be used if they meet John Deere standard JDM J20C or J20D.

As for me - I used the low-visc. Hy-Gard from Deere when I serviced a 4120.
