I'm not sure what kind of tree it is but it looks pretty much like one I have in my yard. I see you are in Canada and I am in South Carolina, but I suppose it could be a close relative to the one I have. Mine is about 25 years old and is a fairly large tree now. It was nothing but a sprout when I transplanted it by accident along with a flowering bush. The bush is long gone but the tree is going strong and doing a nice job of shading my pond from the morning sun. It is an attractive tree and has no annoying droppings until fall when it drops all its leaves. I hope this helps.

i have lots of them, they seem to spread fast and grow quick and very close to each other. i cut a few down and they seem almost orange in colour and wet.

My initial thought was an elm, but the pics are not all that great. Smaller elms do look a bit like the pics. Are the leaves harry under or on top? I'm not best person to know but the forestry forum loves ID'ing trees.
the bark can look that way in saplings on elms, and as they get older they go white-ish with more fissures. slippery elm has less fishers/depth over american elm.

It looks like speckled alder to me,if I am correct I would suggest cutting them as they will take over your property, they are more of a bush than a tree, normally growing to a max. height of 12 to 15 feet. They prefer wet ground however will grow anywhere, and as you are awear are fast growing and fast at spreading.
I'm off to work now however will check back later this night, and have another look, and hopefully you will have more opinions,if they actually are alders they can be a real bugger to get rid of. I can give you some ideas to get rid of them as I am a forest tech. but that does not make me an expert:D:D.

they grew between 3-5 feet this year, in spring most were only 2-3 feet high. I had a feeling they were bad trees ,as nothing good grows that fast
