What kind of oil for a pressure washer pump?

My neighbor just came over and asked me what kind of oil goes in his gas engined pressure washer pump. Apparently, last fall, he asked one of his sons to drain the water out of the hose for storage, but his kid drained the oil out of the pump instead! The manual doesn't specify oil type, it says the pump is maintenance free and doesn't need servicing.

Any experts out there know what we should fill this thing up with?

I use a 10-30 in my 2400 PSI for what it is worth. I change it every year since it hold like 1/2 qt

Northern tool sells a 30W pump oil and I have also seen a 15W-50 for pumps. not sure if any oil will work or if it needs to be special type for water pumps. if the machine is new I would use oil specific for water pump so as not to void warranty.

All our pumps state SAE 30 motor oil right on the housing. We use M-I-TM commercial units 3500 to 4000 psi.

Mine calls for 30w non detergent.

Mine says 30w Non Detergent for the pump only. Motor uses a different weight.

My DeVilbiss pump calls for 30W non detergent. Must be a standard of sorts.
