What kind of farm?

Just curious how many farmers frequent this site. Where are you, what do you grow, and what kind of equipment do you run? I'll start:

Well, I farm/grow conifer trees mostly spruce and pine varieties. My weaponry for that consist of my JD 790 and a variety of implements owned and some loaned.

Do some custom tractor work off and on also. Such as driveway repair, material moving, arena and pasture maintenance, rotary cutting, garden tilling and yard installs also. High tractor population around here, so its not exactly lucrative most of the time.

My other line of work involves operating heavy forestry equipment in the "logging" side of the timber industry. Excavators, log loaders dozers and skidders and such. Not so much involved with till'n but in the dirt non the less.

Great input guys! Always love to hear what other folks are into. I knew we were few here, and I appreciate the fervor of the guys with the CUT's, but how can we get more farmers involved here? Is there a similar site for farmers elsewhere?

Great topic. I would also suggest you add how many acres you are working and if this is your primary income. I believe many of the CUT owners with fervor would like to know the realities.

I was raised in N. Illinois farm country. Corn and Soy Beans pretty much dominate the crops there. I know, I could never afford to invest in what it would take to farm full time there.

This may be a little off topic... but:thumbsup:

Just getting started as a retired member of the military who wants to do more farming. I have 100 acres but most is not tillable (maybe 15 acres which is still in timber). Mostly now it is used for family deer and turkey hunting. I am trying to decide what I want to grow besides clover, turnips, winter wheat, sunflowers, etc. which is for the wildlife.

I've got an MX5100 with FEL, 6' rotary tiller, box blade and rotary cutter. Is there anything to grow for any kind of profit other than the above and brush piles for the wildlife in south central Virginia? I know that is the big question.
