If Ovrszd's idea doesn't fix your problem, find a small padlock that will fit the hole, and purchase several, keyed alike of course, and try that for a while.

I've only lost one. But boy was it an expensive one... I lost the one that held the pin in the top link on my box blade. Not knowing it was missing, I raised the box blade with the 3-point while I was traveling forward. Since the top link pin had fallen out, the box blade swiveled forward at the bottom and the scarfers hit the rear tires. The forward motion of the tractor ensured that the scarfers penetrated the tires. A very expensive lynch pin....

Hmm... ovrszd, you have an interesting solution....

I can't recall having lost a pin... but can see that your Dad's idea would work.

deerhunterf350, hope you try it and let us know how it works for you since you seem to have the most unfortunate luck in losing pins:)

This weekend I started brushhogging and the PTO shaft came out of the JD1010. Turned around to see how everything was going and the PTO shaft was resting on top of the cutter. There is a small clevis pin that holds about a 12" length of shaft into the tractor and it managed to work it's way out.

The shaft is reversible to provide either 1000 rpm when placed inside one outlet or 540 rpm inside another outlet.

Things like this are why tractors will always need an operator, regardless of how accurate the GPS, computer controlled seeders, and such get to be. Things break, get lost, come loose, or wear out and you need a human to be there to fix it when it does.

I use the Pic 2 type pins and when heading into the ugly stuff, I tie them shut with small Zip ties. May not have a wrench or pliers in my hand when time to remove, but I will have my pocket knife.

Hi deerehunter,

On my drawbar I put the drawbar pin in from the bottom, so the little "snap" ring pin goes on top... easier to put the ring through the hole... little bit dirtier for the operator doing the pinning... only have to do it once though!:D

If you can, this way makes snagging your retaining pin a non-issue.

Doing it that way makes for less frequent loss of pins, but more expensive when you do loose one, since you will also loose the pin your trying to hold, and maybe the attachment it is holding. I prefer to buy snap pins by the gross, but that is just me...

The pins keeping my drawbar from swinging were put in that way by the dealer. It's a pretty protected location with the keepers on top. Haven't had reasons to move things yet.

Browns40... Im going to bite here and ask..

Just what is the meaning behind the name of the picture? "Dominics poop at daycare"? Gotta know a little history there.

Hey that guy,

I took that pic of mine to post on here for reference... wish I could take credit for thinking of it, but it's just the way it came from the dealer, and I have continued the practice, and never lost the pin. It has dragged over brush that found hoses, seals, locked the hydro pedal in forward (now thats an experience!)...

Anyway, when I downloaded it I realized the party we had for my son to celebrate his first successful #2 at daycare was on there, and yes, were the important pics in that file!:D

Potty training... I've resorted to promising cake... when will the diapers end:(

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to change the name when posting... I tried to select it, but couldn't figure it out:eek:

If you have a Farmtrac dealer near you check with him. They have the best pins I've ever used and I've been farming since 1960. It's some what like pic 2. But at the top where the ring is connected there is a coil spring on the hinge. The loop goes down over the end of the pin and then flip the coil spring and it lifts the ring up behind the pin. The pin even has a notch in the end for the ring to lay. Had that Farmtrac for 3 years now and haven't lost one or had one come out yet. Also have never seen that type pin before. It's a great design though.
