I have a 2009 4240 HST 4WD with 650 hours and last night after running my rotary mower for 3 hours I found hydraulic fluid leaking from the split pin. I called my Kubota dealer this morning and they told me that this was very bad news. They suspect a front seal leak, which will require major work to replace. Over $1,000 dollars. I asked them what would cause this and they told me it is most likely due to high heat/pressure and they will need to try to find the root cause when they have it in the shop. They told me to look at the ? vent where you put the hydraulic fluid in the tractor to see if it was blocked, and I checked and it was clear.
I want to ensure that this never happens again and to do that I need to understand the cause, so that I make sure I do what is required to prevent a reoccurrence. I told the dealer that I noticed that the tractor was running a little hot - one bar to the right of center on the temp gauge - and that I had to stop often to ensure the radiator had clear air flow. They told me that this was most likely not the issue as the temp never went past one bar to the right of center.
The tractor is maintained very well with all service being done as scheduled and all hydraulic service being done by the dealer. I even change the oil and all filters ever 100 miles.
If anyone else has had is same problem and you have determined what caused the leaking seal, I truly would appreciate it if you would share what you have learned.
Thanks in advance!!
