Re: What is

The front axles on tractors pivot on a post, giving a certain turning radius, limited by the degrees of rotation that the post allows. With Supersteer the front axle post also rotates in the direction of turn, allowing a tighter turning radius. It's pretty amazing feeling on the first test drive.

SuperSteer comes with Sensitrack, a full time "on-demand" four wheel drive system.

A couple things are different. The loader arms move in the opposite direction of travel for the first little bit of movement while turning. This takes some getting used to. Also, different loaders are used for the SS and non-SS tractors. The price is the same, however.

Folks on this board that have SS pretty much seem to love it.

Re: What is

I agree with Chris's post regarding the "quirk" that the supersteer front axle has. On balance, I like the Supersteer feature on my TC40D. However, the "quirk" (when the loader actually moves in the opposite direction of the front wheels) is real and can be a bit annoying. In the vast majority of cases you don't notice it but if you are trying to position your loader in a precise manner it can cause you to utter some profanity. I was moving some crushed road rock for my neighbor and had about three inches to spare on each side of the bucket between to porch posts. It was a struggle to try center the bucket when backing out. With a normal axle its quite easy. But with the Supersteer you have to plan your moves in advance or you can get in trouble. I've gotten better over the past 6 months but I still get frustrated from time to time. But as I stated before, on balance I like it. Without the loader installed you don't notice it. You are able to enjoy the tight turning radius and the sensitrac feature which allows the tightest turn without turf scuffing. The sensitrac allows you to keep the tractor essentially in 4 wheel drive all of the time without having to disengage when making turns. I've been asked several times about the feature and I always offer the same response. Try the Supersteer before you buy it. In the end I predict most will take it. By trying it I also mean to have one delivered at your place (with a loader even if you aren't going to buy one now) so that you see what it does. A 5 minute ride at the dealership (with the salesman watching you closely) doesn't allow you to experience what Supersteer does.

Re: What is

TCowner,
I have a TC40DSS also. One thing you didn't mention is that you can use your supersteer to slide things sideways by driving up next to them and turning your wheels to engage your supersteer "quirk".

Re: What is

Nick, your right. I should have mentioned that point because I have done that. Like I said, on balance, I'd go with Supersteer again. But the down side of being able to move sideways when you want to "bump" someting is that is also happens when you don't want it to. I'd still describe it as a quirk but many seem to like the quirk. I only suggest that someone thinking of purchasing a tractor try it out and see what it does. It probably doesn't deter many sales but the potential owner shouldn't get any surprises.

"The loader arms move in the opposite direction of travel for the first little bit of movement while turning."

I just can't seem to grasp the concept here. Maybe I just need to go test drive one (if I can find one). Are you saying that when you have the wheels turned and start to go, that it starts turning in the opposite direction first, then starts going the way it's turned? What makes this happen?

Re: What is

I agree with most of the posts here on Super Steer. I did not have SS on a compact, I had a TN75S. I traded it for a TN75D as even though I loved the "turning on a dime", I could't get used to the "sideways jumps" particularly when using forks and mounting quick attach implements (which you would think you had lined up and then the loader would move 6" or more out of alignment in the opposite direction of the way you turned). I have used tractors for many years, and would love SS if I was doing mostly mowing, haying, or other field work. It was the close in loader work Not so much with the bucket itself, but especially trying to align the forks with a load that I had difficulity with.

I will be the first to admit that I'm glad I have a hydrostatic transmission - otherwise I would wear a clutch in a hurry going back and forth to line things up. Seriously, it does take some getting used to, and some re-lining up so to speak.

Re: What is

That was bugging me, too, Danny, until I thought about it. What I believe is really happening is the front of the tractor moves a bit in the opposite direction as the axle pivots (unless I'm more lost than I think). If I understand it, turning the front axle and wheels produces a "reaction" in the tractor body that moves it a bit in the opposite direction. Of course this is exaggerated out at the end of the FEL.

Supersteer owners, correct me if necessary.
