Deere 110tlb, 4520, x749, L130
I am thinking about selling my Deere 820 in a private sale. What do you guys think is a fair asking price? This is a 1973 820 with about 1700 hours on it. This is a 3cyl diesel with 31 pto hp and weighs 4.000 lbs without ballast. It is in good shape mechanically and runs well and has good rubber, clutch and paint. I added the rops/deluxe canopy in 2005. All it really needs is some new stickers and use.

I am selling it because I no longer need it since I have the 4520, 110tlb and x749. I see a wide range of prices on the various tractor sites from $8,000+ to $4,000 and think somewhere around $6,000+ is reasonable. Not many good clean used tractors available in my area southern New Mexico to compare to. What is your best guess and why?

Here's some pictures of the tractor taken today.

ok your tractor is 40yrs old an is considered old iron.but it still has alot of life left in it.an those things are what im basing my guess on.it should be worth $4000 to $6000 or less depending on who is wanting it an what they are willing to give.because for its age its still a good low hour tractor.

I don't know what it's worth, but it is a very nice looking old tractor!

Power Steering? Live PTO? Double acting SCV? If no to more than one question, the value is on the low end of the $4-6K range. It isn't any more tractor than a similarly equipped Ford 2000 of the same age.

Rick,
This tractor has manual steering, live pto with almost new clutch pack, single acting remote. Also has position control hitch with load and depth control and differntial lock, hydraulic actuated wet disc brakes and planetary final drives.

A true classic, been looking for a 830. For 4k I'll come and get it.

I say $5K. I like it's a diesel and the down exhaust. When I bought my 2030 I was looking for a 1530 and could not find one. I am not sure if power steering is a "must have" or not. My 2030 has it, and needs it, for the loader. I would also want telescoping lower 3pt links and double acting SCV(s). Very nice looking low hour tractor. The ROPS and canopy would look good on my 2030

I bought my 820 20 yrs ago for $3500. It came with a JD 2-bottom 3ph plow, but no ROPS or canopy. It had 4200 hrs on it when I bought it, almost 5800 hrs now. Based on that, I can see why you think 6k is reasonable. Problem is that no matter how good the condition is, there is a limit to the utility of the machine and thus a limit on the value. It is of course worth whatever someone is willing to pay, but I would guess $4k is about the best you are going to be able to do.

While you may very well be correct I would not sell it for $4000, truth is that isn't any money in todays economy. Recognize that $4000 would buy alot more twenty years ago than it does today. The rops and deluxe canopy cost about $1700 in 2005.
