What feature do you miss most about older push mowers?

For me, I really miss those chrome plated, generously padded handles that were easy to grip and didn't make my hands ache. I hate the cheap looking and uncomfortable black steel handles they have been using for the last 20 years.

Always a touch of nostalgia for the oldies and the days of yore... But not too much. It's not that they've changed all that much, I have. I started pushing a mower 60+ years ago. Dern things today are a lot harder to push. But I don't think it's the mower.

Other things I miss are the well made, solidly adjustable wheel adjusters and the wheels that had metal center bushings. Most of todays adjusters are cheaply made and the plastic wheels have no center bushings. Todays pusher engines are very powerful and reliable and easy starting compared to older models but the decks are crap.

I may be way older than you guys but when I read the title I immediately thought back to the reel push mower I had to use as a kid. No motor. Just kid power. They even were sadistic enough to have a grass catcher to put behind those things. Anyone remember those mowers?

I do not miss those things at all.

I don't miss anything about any push mower.
But when I would buy one I made dang sure it had the big wheels on back so when I would just lean on it,it would roll forward. You also brought me back memories about those vintage motor-less types !
