What exactly makes a racetrack "international"

I only hear about NASCAR races at most of them...

I think if you are from Canada, Mexico, or Indiana, that makes you a foreign driver, thus, an international race track. :laughing:

I think many of these raceways were built in the heyday of Formula 1, Can-Am, IMSA, and the like. Even NASCAR now has drivers from many countries.

Earplug pretty much had it right. They are owned by International Speedway Corp.

I agree "Tony but not all the raceways owned by the ISC are called international.. ?? " Homestead" " Martinsville".. and a few others... I'm a NASCAR fan and would like to know the answer too..

Hmmmmm....good point hr3.
I did some searching but really did not find an answer. I did however read an article about how ISC grew, and in it they spoke of how they acquired Michigan International Speedway, Watkins Glen International Speedway, Phoenix International Raceway, etc. It leads one to believe they were already named International.
So I'm back to square one.

Here's another question. Is racing a "green" sport because they burn ethanol?

Around here, if a grass strip can land a Cessna 150, its a international airport.

Same here and the pilot's usually don't speak English and have a whole bunch of funny looking hay bales.
