Rotary Cutter What does this padlock symbol mean? (Landpride RCR1548 rotary cutter)

Just today, I noticed a padlock lock/unlock symbol on the plastic guard at the PTO end of the driveline on my Landpride RCR1548 - picture attached:



Right underneath the arrow symbols there's a small window where you can insert a screwdriver and turn a slotted plastic screw or bolt head. I looked in the operator's manual and there's no mention of this. Two questions:

1. What does this lock/unlock mean?
2. How can I tell if it's locked or unlocked? I can rotate a screwdriver to turn the plastic screw or bolt, but I can't see anything that tells me which direction it's facing.

I should have left well enough alone, since everything's been working fine, but now that I've messed with it I figure I better know what I've done.

That unlocks the shield from the end of the shaft, so it can be slid back, exposing the U joint.

Oh, by the way it only took me about a day to figure that out on my own. and I like to never figured out the align the hole thing. I don't like the Eurocardan shield at all, I much prefer the LA Magdelana, much simpler.
