Never owned one. Never thought I needed one. Yet, a lot of you say they are really important to you. So, what uses do you get from them?

Got my backhoe to use for digging out lots of eucalyptus trees and stumps.

Mostly stumps with a few water pipe ditches thrown in.

Asides from the obvious digging ditches and holes.
With my BH I've
pulled post
removed trees and stumps
cleared brush
Used as a crain for lifting and installing culvert.
Tore out side walks .
Also pushed the joints together when joining pipe and or culvert.
Used as a power rake for dragging out brush and trash that I could not get to otherwise.
The BH is a very handy power rake and mini scraper.

I'd b just plain lost with out a BH.

Rite now as we type there are about 4 assignment waitin on the Back Hoe.

Some pictures of some of the projects I have used the BH for.

The problem with owning a BH is you will do projects that you normally would not, owning a BH creates work. Now that I think about it owning a tractor creates work.

Here is a few for me.

For myself
Dug the footings for an addition on the house
Drainage ditches and keeping them clean and or digging them again
Burying horses and other large animals (boy I hate digging these by hand):D
Dug out a small pond
Dug out a small spring and set 2, 4ft round x 4ft high tiles to make a water holding tank for the barn.
Water lines (4 ft deep)
Septic leach fields
Post holes for my new deck (4 ft deep)
Dig out for Volleyball court
Set electric pole
Dig out for pole barn
Dig out for retaining walls
Dig out corner post holes for fencing
Dig out tree stumps
Dig out large rocks
Moving smaller trees (for the wife)
Electric lines
Rock garden (couple times, the first one is never right)
Finding septic tank lid
Dig out for Hot Tub;)
Setting Hot Tub;)
Dug out for an above ground pool (then gave the pool away and filled it in a few years later)
Backing into things:eek: (don't ask)

For others
Burying horses
Water lines (4 ft deep)
Septic leach fields
At least twice a year something or another for a neighbor
Electric Lines
Dig out for foundation wall repairs

Trenches and holes
Placing rocks (with thumb)

Spot repair of driveway -- I have a gravel driveway with a few spots which have persistent potholes. A pothole repair lasts a lot longer, if I dig up the base rock and re-pack it before repairing the pothole.

Just barely got mine, so far pulled a stump and dug for a gate.
I've been mainly using it as an exercise machine by hooking and unhooking it.

Removal of Stumps or whole trees, digging trenches & planting trees is all I have used mine for. I tried the FEL for tree/stump removal, what a job that is.

Good question. In retrospect I would have not bought the BX24, but a BX2350 (or now a BX2660) w/FEL instead simply because I don't use the BH. I played around with a stump once and only once. Just don't have the need, don't own horse, already have a pond (from a rented excavator). So IMO, not as important as the $$ would have been for other attachments.

I even went to the dealer to trade for a 2660 but the result would have been me paying a few k$ and giving them the new BH. Everything else would swap. The BH sits on a dolly in the corner of my shop taking up space that I would like back. Wanna buy it?

OTOH, I would be completely disabled without the FEL and 3-point.

Just MHO.

My dealer talked me out of buying a tractor with a backhoe. I looked at a BX24 but got the 2350. I've had it for over a year and there have a lot of times I could have used the BH...not for kicks ...but really used it.

Nice thing about a smaller one (at least for me) is the places you can get it into.

I don't get any exercise doing that with mine .
I just leave it on the tractor since i have 2 other tractors.

1*I don't put mine on and take mine off.
2*Doing it with a FEl would suck after using a BH.
3*Glad my dealer didn't screw me up like that.

If my backhoe was a small as yours

I wouldn't get any exercise either :)

Yours probably slides off and on easily.

I don't have a BH but in it's place a small excavator - sort of the same. I use it for stump removal, tree moving, burying dead pets, seperating and moving old asparagus plants, rock placing or removal in my garden, septic repairs, waterline trencing, ripping wild grape vines off trees, drainage installaition and control, trail building and most recently to double depth dig a new garden site in horrible heavy rocky clay. The tractor front end loader gets a lot more use but it's nice to have that backhoe.
