What do you consider Rural Living?

I consider myself rural the closest grocery store or gas is over 10 miles.
I have 3 neighbors close by but next side road is a few miles away and I live on 40 acres.

I think in north MS to be considered as rural living would be how far are you from a Walmart, for me its a 40 mile round trip.

I would say consider the man with no teeth...

If he's embarrassed and feels like he needs to fix them, probably in the city.
If he's not embarrassed about them by people when he's out - Rural
If there's nobody around when he's out - Country

I live "rural". There is a small town also 10 miles away where you can get the basics. For a "shopping" trip most people drive to Reno (350 mile round trip) or Salt Lake City (720 round trip). Those are the nearest cities of any size.

Then there's the ranches around here, some of which are 100 and more miles from the aforementioned small town. Their school-aged kids are boarded with someone in town so they can attend school.

Rural means to me that you do not live in a Town or City. Different than remote rural where neighbors are miles away. Different than wilderness where access is limited. You might live in an enclave of several homes of like minded folks, or related, like the Amish or on isolated acreage.

With 10 miles to the nearest village and about 75 to Walmart, it's fairly rural here.

FedEx and/or UPS shows up almost daily, so it doesn't really matter how far away any stores are. For a Costco run it's a 325 mile roundtrip.

About the only person who might take issue with that would be Mrs. Oak, though in the spring/early summer she does ask me to do so around some her flower beds to discourage the deer from eating them.
