Tractor
Kubota L2800 4WD FEL
Each tractor was quoted with agricultural tires and the specified loader. How good , bad, average are these prices?

Also is the hydro trannie worth the extra money? and is it worth the extra money to step up to the 3400?

I have 8 acres, 3 horses and a 1000' driveway to maintain. I don't have to worry about snow since I live in SC and we see very little.

Prices are less Customer Instant Rebate. of $600.00
L2800DT (synchro) LA463 Loader $14,900.00
L2800HST (hydro) LA463 Loader $16,382.00
L3400DT LA463 Loader $15,920.00
L3400HST LA463 Loader $17,403.00

Thanks for the advice!

Prices look slightly high, but I haven't priced these exact tractors myself.

On this list, for your uses, I would be looking only at the L3400HST. But I am making some assumptions about what you want to do with it. What implements are you planning to use? What size brushhog, in particular?

The hydro tranny will be 10 times easier to use than the non-synchro gear trannies for loader work and for tight mowing. With that size tractor you should be able to get in a lot of small areas and use the loader for many tasks, so you will probably really appreciate the HST. Incidentally, I see you referred the L2800DT as "synchro", but last I checked this was an entirely non-synchro tranny that requires you to stop for any shift. Am I wrong?

Thanks Z-Michigan,

As far as the trannie goes I really don't know much about the synchro or the hst. I just copied what the dealer sent me in the email and posted it here. I am also planning on using a 5' cutter and a box blade.

I have a 2004 L2800 with the LA 463 loader; power has never been an issue for me. I use a 60'' Bushhog and box scraper with the tractor. The only advantage of the L3400 is the over-riding clutch/hp, which allows you to stop the tractor, while the implement still runs! However, check on both tractors that the three point inching valve, has been upgraded to the infinite positioning one, which was a common complaint (PITA) a couple of years ago, forcing Kubota to change them at no charge! I have the shuttle shift (manual transmission/non-synchro), and once you have a few hours on the tractor, it is perfect for my operation, since I don't do continious loader operations. If you are doing loader work in a confining area, I would consider the hydro transmission. You will run out of traction, before ever running out of power. If you plan on bush-hogging your acreage; plan on 5hp/foot of width of the hog to determine needed tractor hp. I think you are getting a fair price on the L2800; my price new, was $14500 excluding tax, nearly three years ago in Northern Calif. Hope this info helps, and good luck on your choice. The R-1's tires are a good choice also!

I paid $15,500 for a new L2800HST with LA463 loader this past September. This was with R4 tires which add about $400 to the price, so you can probably do better. If your quotes are email quotes, you will likely do better in person when you are closer to a purchase.

I'm not sure about your prices, but I just bought a NH 3 weeks ago and found what helped me was to drive to other locations and price out the tractors. When I was looking a the Kubota's there was a 2k difference between my town and one 45 miles away. I finally picked the salesman that was willing to talk and not pitch (not to mention that I liked the low hood design on the NH).

As for the gear verses Hydro.... Don't ask... I asked that question awhile ago and it took 300 posts to finally decide that I needed to save the money (for other toys... I mean tools) and my wife said that she was not planning on driving it anyway and I'm not in a hurry --- I just put it in a gear and mosey a long.

Good luck!

As for which tranny........Try them both,go which one feels best. I find customers often change their mind once they have a test drive. If you can swing the larger tractor go for it. Always better to be over powered vs underpowered.

Just bought an L3400HST, LA463 loader, and loaded R4's back in December for $17,300. As for transmission type, I was set on the gear drive to save the extra money. Dealer gave me the keys to a DT and a HST. After operating both, the extra money for the HST was not an issue. I liked both tractors and I'm sure I would be happy with the DT if I had not driven the HST, but I did drive it and that is the one sitting in my shed.

2 years ago, L2800 HST, FEL, R-4's loaded, folding ROPS - $15,000+$800 tax (I bought it in VA, since it was closer to my land and a nicer dealer).

I drive gear at work and would have like to save the extra money by *not* getting HST but friends and famliy drive the tractor more than me, youngest was 9 yo. and oldest was 74 yo MIL!!! There's no better feeling than watching someone drive their first tractor. There would have been NO way that most of them would have even have tried it, if it was gear driven.

I use the "cruise control" to mow the 12 or so acres (wide open) but when I get into the tight areas where I have go forward and back... the HST pays for itself in time saved.

If I could afford the extra HP of the L3400 (and extra gas over the years), I would have BUT I did NOT need them... I used the extra money towards other toys.

i got a quote today and plan to buy a used L3400 and a new loader.

i had hst on the tractor (b7510) i sold saturday. i really liked it. with the larger machine and the uses i have planned the gear will be fine.

i would spend the extra money to go from L2800 to L3400. the dealer in Columbia had several L2800hst's and at least 1 L3400hst. i stopped by there today.
