Let me preface this by saying - aside from the JD 4310 my pop owns - my tractor hydraulic sound experience is limited to 8N's and pair of old pre-Toro Wheel Horses (no hyro's here).

So here are some questions I have amassed in the last few hours in the seat of my BX24:
1 - how "hot" is normal for the hydraulic connectors that attach on the rear to the BH. When I go to re-attach the BH after mowing - the metal couplers are hot enough to burn me.

2 - when using the BH (completely new implement to my experiences) - how much noise is "normal" when you hit the full extension range of any one of the pistons.

3 - how much noise (that whine sorta sound from the tranny) is normal when driving the tractor around?

I realize "normal" is tough to define... I'm just looking for some perspective on this. I think everything is normal, just wanting to make sure! Aside from the sounds (which just scare me since they are new) this little monster works like a champ.

I can't speak for the BX24 but I can say for my BX23:

1. Hydraulic connectors are HOT HOT HOT, when I am mowing, after about an hour my rear end can feel the heat through the seat.

2. I nevery noticed any BH noises, but they are probably there.

3. Tranny noise, a pretty good hiss even when at idle.

All sounds normal for such a handy hardworking machine.

I hear hissing most of the time.

Occasionally have a chatter noise. Sounds like a loose chain slipping over on a sprocket wheel. It can only be produced when HST is hot and under a load in high range. For example: approach a pile of dirt and get in a bit too deep. If you are in high range and the HST is not really hot, the engine will simply bog down and even die if you wait that long. If the HST is hot, the engine will not bog down but you will get the chatter. I have never heard it in low range but tire traction is usually the limiting factor in that situation. You can hear it at other times when under similar loads, but used this as one example.

The dealer thought it was from a piece of plastic that got up in the belly and was touching the HST cooling fan but that did not stop the chatter. They cannot find anything else wrong. I think it is the relief valve chattering but not sure how to tell.

Never heard this on my BX2200 but is present on my BX23.

Anyone have any ideas?

My BX 22 makes all of the noises you are talking about. It maks a noticable noise anytime the hydrolic pressure relife is hit and the tranny whines as do all straight cut gears the hoses get hot when using the loader and the back hoe I never change them hot so don't know about that.

I get the loud harmonic whine when traveling and if the ride is bumpy the whine fades in and out. Sometimes I get a squeal when raising the box blade when hot and also when using the FEL when hot it will squeal. Hissing when cold at idle.

My BX 24 screams like a wild banshee while working...... but then again, so does my wife.

Anyone else have this metallic chatter?

Oh Ya....it sounds horrible when hot. FEL and 3Pt hitch squeal when hot.

i can confirm all your concerns my bx22 is very very hot at hydrl connectors\

Is the whine indicate that eh fluid level is low? Also is the yellow cap on the rearend of the tractor the hydraulic fill port? Why does it say oil?
