I am looking at one to buy for my farm. This one has 2 row narrow picking head on it now. Hydraulic in and out and Up and down and electric solenoid to turn the back elevator on and off from the cab of the tractor. They are asking $3000 and it is about 2 hours away and 10 1/2 ft wide (outside to outside). It is in above average condition. Any feedback on this particular model picker? Ken Sweet

Nothing to add on the picker, other than to say it's a "good-looker."

Am I correct in thinking that you will be picking ear corn to sell to deer hunters? I'm not a hunter, but my casual observation is that ear corn commands a premium in the Carolinas.

Ken ... those are good pickers and parts are ready available at J.D.

The only thing I don't like is buying something with fresh paint ... Just me, I always wonder what they are covering up.

The picker belongs to my oldest Son's next door neighbor and has just come out of the field. It has only been used on hills too steep for the combine and the neighbor is planning on not planting the steeper hills in the future. Ken Sweet

HOLD ON Ken ... Just out of the field? If that was true I would believe the snouts would at least have the fresh paint wore off from the corn stalks and that unit would not be that clean. Even a new unit that was a in a corn field would show some signs of use.

Don't take me wrong .. just my observation of the photo.

That is an interesting reason.

If you can't run a combine on it it would be dang tough to pick with a pull type picker.

I agree. It hasn't seen any picking this fall and since painting.

That picture is a Rep photo so you guys could recoginize what I am looking at. The actual picker still has good original paint and I am 2 hours away from it and cannot get a quick picture. Ken Sweet

In most regards 300 pickers are as good or better than New Idea pickers. If you need a picker/husker and given the lack of parts availability for New Idea machines, I think a well-kept 300 is a good choice.

Ah-Ha ... now I understand the fresh paint!! As I said earlier the Picker is a good unit. My experience is the floor of the elevator can rust out ... unless its been sheded.
