Z, I think that tail wheel assembly was junk, just like you say. Shame that they would put something like that on a green piece of equipment.

I would expect that if you get the tailwheel thing resolved the mower should work fine otherwise. But I can totally understand how you feel about it. I would feel the same way.

The guess work is over with...saw a Rhino 172, bought the Rhino 172.

I think it is better built than a Woods.

I pretty well use my rotary cutter as a battering ram and cut anything I can run over with it. I built a complete frame, or cage, made of 3/8" wall thickness 2" square tubing around the cutter. The leading and tail edge also have a 3"X4" 3/8" thick angle with the leading edge of the angle pointed outwards to push over anything it hits.

I use my mower in reverse the same way as you do going forward, and the unit already has battle scars -ripped a gash in the rear corner, as well as bent the rear side of the deck. Also bent one of the rear wheel spindles. The wheel still swivels, just not as good as she used to Kinda like the owner

Just kidding, I'll take a pic of the old dirty thing when I get home. It's currently MF red since that's the only implement paint I had at the time. Oh well, I can paint it another color next year when I beat all the paint off of it this year. What's a good color?
