Went Crazy at J.D. don\'t tell my wife

I bought a 2003 4310 last year in July, got it used with 24 hours on it, 420 loader, 47 backhoe, 16' steel bed trailer, all for 20K. I already had a 1987 MF 1010 hydro, 16 h.p. that was just too small. Last week I sold the old MF, went to the local J.D. dealer, spent most of the money from the sale of the MF on new tools (toys) for the 4310.
Got loader mount forks, 72" front blade (manual), rental upgrade kit (skid plates), Xtra Armour kit, and Frontier BB1072 Box Blade.
I felt like I had to tell someone, can't tell my wife, she thinks new furniture is more important. I think sitting on the tractor is a lot more fun.
When she figures it out, I might be sleeping on the tractor too.
How much fun can one stand?
Probably wont be on the forum much in the next couple of weeks, busy working with new tools.

Thanks for listening.

Why does anybody need new furniture that sits around collecting dust and pet hair most of the time....? And I'm sure while you were at the dealership you took a test drive on a new JD to earn a free chair, which qualifies as FURNITURE, so why would your wife be upset with you? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That is a great price for the equipment you bought, be assured your fellow TBN members won't say a word to your spouse about it. I can identify with your concern, at the end of 2002 I went out and spent $21,000 on a 4210 package, without consulting my wife. Had it delivered while she was at work and stored it in the big barn way out back where she never had a reason to go. I could say a lot more about how she reacted when she learned about my new toy, but the deed was done and it was my money that got spent so what could she do? Enjoy the "new" tractor.

Don't think I could say it any better /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I'd sleep on the tractor /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Have fun playing, I mean working with the new tools.

She'll never notice, unless she was counting on spending the proceeds from the sale of your 1010 .... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

It's like trying to tell your wife when you return from a business or fishing trip that you "spent most of your money on women, booze and gambling; the rest you wasted".

They just don't understand.

Buying implements for a tractor which has a seat, is like upgrading furniture anyway.

I figured out a long time ago how to ease the "shock". Leave on your motorcycle for a 2 day trip. Not really, just have your wife be responsible for helping with half of the upkeep of the property. (Preferably the push mower half) That way, she'll be buying the tractor herself or yelling at you to go get one.

Re: Went Crazy at J.D. don\'t tell my wife

I have a great time with my wife and toys, ah, er, tools. The best way to handle it is using the multi-day 'Saved a ton' approach. For example, when purchasing the $2100 snow plow attachment:

Day 1: "Oh Honey, I am looking at getting a front blade for the tractor because I really need one for road maintenance. It will save us lots of money. Unfortunately, the rotten things cost $6400, so I am looking for a less expensive version. Thats just way too much to spend on snow removal equipment."

Day 2: "Oh honey, I found a really inexpensive snow plow that can also spread gravel. The only problem is it requires a hydraulic extension for the front of the tractor that costs about $3200. Without it, I will have a hard time moving around the property"

Day 3: "Great news, I managed to get a manual version of the plow. I figured I can handle the manual version since we don't need to adjust it very often, but it will be heavy, so I need pallet forks for moving it around. I talked the guy down to $2100. I saved nearly $4300, which will leave me enough to get those pallet forks, which are actually saving us money. Sure you can go Furniture shopping. Here is an Ikea catalog and nice $100 bill. Go ahead and spend the entire $100 since we just saved so much money on tractor parts..."
