This morning, we had no water, our well pump wasn't working. I called a friend who installs them and he came right over. When he checked it out he found that the pump was fine, but the wire to the pump had a break. Obviously we had to pull the pump to replace the wire. We re-installed it, and it works fine, but my water isn't clear yet.

Being a livestock farm, this presents a real problem. My sheep have no problem with the brown water, but my goats want no part of it. Being a goat dairy, if they don't drink enough, they won't produce much milk.

So which is the best way to clear the water as fast as possible...Use as little water as possible to let the sediment settle. or use as much as possible to pump out the cloudy water?

Thanks for any info!!!

Removing the pump stired it up and your water useage doesn't. I think using more water would clear it up quicker.

Richz, when we changed our pump we had brown water for about 30 minutes then it started to clear, by the next day it was all good.

Let me get this straight- goats will reportedly EAT almost anything but they won't DRINK brown water :D
I occasionally get sandy, a little stained, water from my submersible pump well, I always wondered if something is caving in 200 ft down.....

Pumping the well but not exceeding it's flow capacity may work to clear out well bore sediments that have been disturbed by pulling the pump.:D

Skyco, goats are VERY picky eaters. Goats eating almost anything is an old wives tale. Goats are VERY curious and intelligent. They'll check out and investigate everything they see, and they'll often pick it up to check it out. Obviously, to pick it up, it goes in their mouth, but they don't eat it, they'll put it back down.

Mornin Rich,
Long time no hear ! Good to hear you on again ! Your well should clear shortly, as a previous poster mentioned pump some water out and your water will clear quickly !

we only have 3 goats, 2 of one kind and 1 of another, so my sample size is obviously small, but the different breeds we have prefer different things and as rich said, they don't eat everything.

Howdy, Scotty!!

My well did clear up, but it took about 24 hours, with the pump running about half the time. At least it finally cleared up, I was really getting worried!!!
