There seems to be a lot of threads centered around welding, buying welders, and learning to weld. I recently bought a welder when I built my shop.

This morning when connecting my plow i noticed a couple of broken welds. I came home from work took the plow off and in about 30 minutes had it repaired. I am by no means a professional and the welds are not that great. I justwant to show how simple it can be. i dont have time to take classes or spend hours on a fix, i had to help my daughter with her homework....

A couple pics of the broken weld

Some basic prep work. I used a dremel tool since i could not get my grinder in there. It was only welded on one side, i decided to weld the other side to for a little reinforcement.

Love my Miller 180 auto set. i have only used it 4 times, I was looking forward to this all day.

Simply measure the thickness of metal, turn dial to correct thickness, turn on machine and gas, and weld it.

Howdy neighbor, did you brake the plow in the heavy wet snow we had before Christmas? Did you lose power in the storm? We were out for 6 days.

A little paint and I am happy.

Just glad I did not have to take it to a welding shop and wait for a week to get it back. Especially with another storm coming this weekend.

I did. I was ramming some frozen snow banks pretty agressively. Did not lose power until the Christmas day ice and wind. Only for 6 hours.

Are you in the southern part of the state?

Nice looking welds, it gives a great sense of satisfaction when you can do it for yourself. I have a AC/DC stick welder that I use and I don't know what I would do without a welder. I live 20 minutes north of Charleston in Elkview. We had a lot of heavy snow and lost power for 6 days before Christmas eve. I picked up a new gen set and the power co was working on the power when I got back.

Curious - is the 180 a 220 volt machine and did you have it at max amps when you did those welds? The vertical piece looked like at least 1/2 plate from the pic which is pretty heavy duty to get a deep penetration weld.

I assume the pics show the setting you had the amps set at? That vertical plate looked like 1/2 inch. Probably would have been safe maxing out your machine without worrying about blowing through the thinner piece and gotten more penetration. Didn't look like you burned much paint near the weld meaning not a lot of heat meaning not a lot of penetration but if you double sided it it oughta be ok. If not you get to practice some more welding!! That's one of the things I like about it. If it busts you just re weld it! :)
