So... The brakes are part of the hydraulic system, right? I had a leak that was coming from where the right brake linkage goes into the tractor. It was never more than a drop every few minutes, but it was constant. Over a period of 5 months I caught (in a bucket) at least a gallon of hydraulic fluid (and I shudder to think how much oil is in my soil - from before I thought to put a bucket under it).

But the weird part is that now it's stopped leaking!

Now, the way I figure things it's because the oil level is back down where it's supposed to be, or something like that. I mean, I think that whoever filled the fluid last (I've only had the tractor for 8 months) put too much in. I check the level at least every week and if anything it's always seemed a bit on the high side.

Mind you, I check the level by screwing the dipstick all the way in and then taking it out. My guess is that someone else filled it to "full" with the dipstick just sitting in the hole - not screwed in. Of course that's pure conjecture on my part. And what do I care - now that it's stopped leaking!

(Oh! The irony! Stopped leaking oil, but, wow, is there ever a lot of coolant in my field!)
