I'm looking for a compact tractor and shopping around. Funny thing when comparing weights. The Kubota 3200 is 1764 pounds. The Bobcat CT230 and CT235 are 3000 pounds! Go figure.
It sounds like they should be compared to the Kubota L series. I own a Kubota B2910 that I bought in 2000. It's 30HP, but at the time they also made the Grand L 3030 which was 30 hp. I can tell you there is no comparison. The weight of the Grand L is double, the loader lift capacity is double..... Unless you need a smaller physical machine, compare brands by weight. Look at the L3240 HST.. it's over 3300 lbs without the loader...
until you get into the L series, the Kubotas rear is made of aluminum, on a steel frame. I think that explains most of the weight difference. My old Ford compact was too, and I suspect you'll find that's the case with many of the Japanese compacts.
Depending on what kind of work you want to do it may not be an issue.
The L is much more machine than the B series, but I got a B2620 to physically fit it in my wooded terrain.
Thx, Cmhyland and Oldboyscout, I'll be using the tractor on a vineyard with 9 ft spacing between rows and not much room to turn at the ends. Thus the B series seems right. The majority of the time will be spraying and mowing (flail). The land is steep (up and down, not sideways). Do you think the light weight of the B series will be a problem?
Kubota B3200/L2501/SVL65-2/U35-4, IH 454/656, Ford NAA, Case 1845C/480E/450C LGP
I think the B series will be fine for your uses, as long as the sprayer isn't too big. I'd want no more than a 55gal sprayer on a tractor the size of a B3200. They are very nimble tractors and will go up and down steep hills easily.
you can add a substantial amount of weight in the form of wheel weight, three point ballast and front suitcase weights if necessary, but if you're not doing any plowing, disking, or the like i doubt you'll have much of a problem. Think more about tires if you'll be on groundcover.
Just a suggestion. Have you checked the website TractorData.com ? You can find dimensions and weights there, and info and specs on most Makes and Models of tractors. Hope this may be useful.
If you don't have a sprayer yet I would look a trailer types... Make sure you load the rear tires for weight. Flail mowers are pretty heavy so you'll need some balast weights on the front if your going to run with the loader off...
