I'm trying to estimate the weight of a Craftsman lawn tractor, EZ3 15.5 HP 42" deck hydrostat. Anyone know what it weighs?

Sears might have the manuals for their lawn tractors on line, if you don't have the original. The weight should be in the specs.

I have the manual, but the weight is not in it.

Bummer.

Put it on a scale, one wheel or one end at a time and add the numbers. That should work.

Not necessarily.

One wheel at a time means that one of the other wheels may well be held off the ground. So you would then get a weight that is roughly twice as large as the truth.

A better approach might be to use two scales, one for each rear wheel, then weight the front end the same way. This will give a fairly accurate estimate of the weight. (Not perfect though.)

Alternatively, use only one scale, with a 2x6 holding up both wheels at one end of the tractor, and the scale in the center. Weigh the piece of wood separately, then subtract.

Just a guess but I would estimate it between 400-500#. This is based on the weight of my ATV. Generally, they aren't as heavy as one would initially think.

You can weigh each wheel independently. It should be obvious, but everything has to be at the same height, and blocks for the three wheels not on the scale would be required.

The main reason I suggested the individual wheel method, as well as the each end method, is possible scale limitations. I don't know what the OP has available, so I gave an alternate solution.

I called Sears and they looked up the shipping weight and told me 500 lbs.
