I am wondering what brand of weed spray chemical is most economical to spray fence rows. I have over a mile of woven wire fence rows. Many parts of it are getting covered with the climbing vines and blackberry brambles. I bought some RM43 the other day which will kill everything. It was $27 for a quart, $60 for a gallon, and $100 for 2.5 gallons. I bought a quart. In reading the directions, a quart will not go very far. I was looking online and it seems that Crossbow is cheaper in the sense that it goes further. But it does not kill the grass. I could spray that with Glyphosate. But, I am also thinking about not worrying about the grass and just deal with the brush. I do not have a field sprayer, just a 25 gallon sprayer to pull behind our John Deere 318 lawn mower tractor.

So, what do most people do about fence rows in trying to be economical?
Also, I may not have time to get it all done this year, can I buy a larger quantity (2.5 gallons) and keep the unused part until next year?

I use a generic roundup that I bought on sale at Southern States for about $25 for 2.5 galllon two years ago on sale. It seems to keep its effectiveness over time.
The label recomends mixing with 2 4 D to increase its killing ability. When mixed together it wipes out everything I have put it on except one vine that I have that could survive a nuclear blast.

Yes you can buy larger containers of chemical and it will keep on a shelf. My fencerow concoction is 2 oz Glyphosate AND 2 oz 2-4-D Amine per 1 gallon of water, this kills the grass and brush very well. You can mix them both in the tank together and spray them at the same time, I sometimes give the tank a shot of dish detergent to help it stick to leaves, it also helps to spray on a dry day with the sun shining bright, the hotter the better. I use a 25 gallon sprayer on a 4 wheeler or the 15 gallon sprayer I have mounted on the rear of my Grasshopper.

I used a heavy concentration of generic roundup when I first bought my property that was taken over pretty well. after the first application I came back 3 months later with a more diluted amount to just maintain the fence line and prevent new growth. im a big fan of generic roundup for a fence since im not worried about the grass there.

Local stores should have generic round up way cheaper than what you bought. Use that. There is a barrier product that says it will prevent regrowth for 365 days.

As for storage you should be fine as long as you keep it fairly climate controlled. Don稚 let it freeze.

~$50 for 2.5 gallons of 51% glyphosate (generic roundup)
~$50 for ester 2-4d

About 2oz of each per gallon of water

So for ~$100 you will have 160 gallons of mix that will kill pretty much everything with little exception

May not be the "best" because they are always coming out with new fangled concoctions and mixtures of different products. But it is certainly the most cost effective.

That is what I use for my fence rows. Mix glyphosate and 2-4D Amine together to kill grass, weeds, vines , trees etc. basically anything that grows that mixture will kill. 2.5 gallon jug of generic Roundup is around $50. It has been a few years since I bought any but it keeps well in a dry cool place out of direct sunlight. I also put a healthy dose of a commercial grade surfactant so it sticks to waxy leaves. Dishwashing soap will work also.

Mow it and stop poisoning the ground with chemicals that kill bees, bugs, birds, and pollute. ZTR or tractor mowing.

I have never seen weed killer poison the bees or other animals. ZTR mowers cant mow under a fence line either.

Proper chemical use does not harm the environment anymore than the exhaust emissions from your internal combustion engines.

A mower probably kills alot more wildlife than roundup/24d than has been around for decades.

But some people you just cannot argue with. So theres no point even trying.:confused2:
