I wonder if it would be possible to open up the bottom 3-4 feet of the vertical seam every 10 feet or so and use that gap to slip L-shaped flashing under the edge of the wall, then re-screw the vertical seams. ???

I could probably get some flashing under there, but it would really have to be consistent with the shape of the building to work well wouldn't it.
