I think I have a problem with water in my Diesel fuel. I have a B 7100, B 2920 & a RTV 1100. I have always gotten my Diesel fuel from the same local gas station. I have never had a problem with either tractor but the RTV is currently useless to me. The RTV starts and I can let it idle just fine for 20 or 30 minutes. Within a couple of minutes of snow plowing it stalls out and won't start. I have to warm up the area around the fuel lines and fuel filter and it will start and run fine until I attempt to plow & once again it will stall out. This has been going on for a while now. I have tried using some anti-gel in the fuel still have the problem. I used a product call K 100 D same problem. I recently added about 6 ounces of Power Serve 911 to a full fuel tank, let it set over night with no difference the next day. A week ago I removed the horizontal fuel filter and replaced it with a vertical fuel filter/separator and it also made no difference. Some one suggested I switch to off road diesel instead of the ULSD Diesel. Is doing that sound like it is some thing good to try?
Will the off road diesel cause any harm to the tractors or the RTV? Any other ideas as to what may be causing the problem?
Someone suggested I siphon some fuel from the bottom of the tank and see if I find any water in the fuel. I did that the day after I treated it with 911. I siphoned out about 16 ounces into a clear plastic bottle. What I found looked like pure diesel, no sign of any water. I wonder if the 911 dissipated any water that have have been in there? But I still have the same problem. I have a ton of money invested in the RTV 1100 and the Boss plow and right now it is parked under cover and unless.
Help????

First of all, the clear "on-road" diesel from the local station is exactly the same as the red "off-road" diesel, EXCEPT for the red dye and the amount of taxes paid. You won't hurt anything to switch.
Off-road is cheaper simply because it doesn't have the road tax added to the price. It is illegal to put the red fuel in a road vehicle, but not the other way around.
I would suggest that you look around for a fuel source that has a good filter unit on the pump and they service it often. If that isn't practical, I recommend that you get a tote tank, with a pump and filter unit. Then, you can fill up your equipment and know that it's getting filtered fuel.

Next issue:
Are you absolutely sure that you are getting water in the fuel on the RTV. I find it odd that it's the only thing giving you problems. Have you checked the fuel pressure?

It sounds more like not enough fuel treatment. did you get fuel RECENTLY that has treatment for 20 degrees lowr than actual? l would add a 3x dose of Howes diesel treat then store the machine in a heated garage (70f) for 48 hrs to put the wax back in solution

Forgot to tell you that once you gel it stays gelled until HEATED. The additives PREVENT clouding and gel,but don't fix it after. Also, Howes is the best ive found ... Much better than anything else. ymmv

You sure have a water problem ?

Your just going to beat a bird around a bush till you know for sure.

Once you know for sure what your problem IS, it'll be much easier to fix.

personally id siphon off all fuel from all vehicles, then go to another fuel supply...like a truck stop... that doesnt have an old supply of fuel on hand. refuel all vehicles and see what happens.

I had a problem years ago about not keeping my fuel tanks full in very cold weather. moisture built up on tank and added water to the fuel tanks.

I'm not sure if this is your problem, but, are you getting biodiesel? Around here a lot of stations sell biodiesel. Some don't, but it costs more. I have off road delivered and never get the bio because my fuel supplier said he has a lot of problems with bio in the winter. I only use the non bio in my Dodge/Cummins now.
