Massey Harris Model 20, IH 240 Utility
So after much repair and lots of reading (thanks to all who contribute to this forum!) I have my MH 2 bottom plow pretty much complete - just needs a touch of paint here and there. I have estimated the MH plow to be a model 26, 1938 or earlier, my tractor is a 1947 MH model 20. It still needs the original sheetmetal as far as a hood goes, but is functional.

Now I have to learn how to use it properly - how deep to cut, how to adjust the coulters, how to plan the job at hand.

Next project is a custom "hiller" for potatoes.

Regards,

Graham

Nice looking tractor and plow. Very nice restoration job on the plow, did you restore the tractor also?

Now we need to see some shots of the pair in action:D

Hi, Yes! I restored the tractor last year, still a bit to do - need to complete the hood as it is not original, but it is functional.

I'm building a harrow to follow after the plow is done, hoping to have it ready for Friday - potatoes have to go in soon, plus, I will build a hiller to save on that manual work. I will post some of the progress photos as I get the harrow done.

I will also post "action" shots of plowing.

Thanks for the kudos. The tractor needs the correct sized tires on the front and the hood needs to be done properly, but in time - "little by little" as my grandpa used to say.

OK, I tried the plow last night but it was SO wet, I could only run a furrow depth of 4-5 inches, but I had to try. Keeping in mind the tractor only weighs in at about 2700 lbs, I was noticing the ground deflection under the tires at over an inch and water filling in behind slowly in places. We need heat and sun - the jet stream is south of us, keeping it cool (55-60F) up here as a daytime high right now. Also tried my home-made harrow - pretty good, but hard to judge in that kind of wet.

Ah, send some of that heat up here - our season is short, basically June 1st to Aug 30th for reliable growing, add a week either end on good years or if you're planting beside the south wall of the house!

My potatoes are cut and ready to go in as of 11pm last night, corn is in the seeding pans and like I said, waiting for the soil to dry and warm up! :(

All right, here's the action shots...

My son took the pics, so there are a bunch more of the muddy side of things, as you could expect. He also took some video, which I may toss up on youtube if I get some bandwidth.:)

Great actions shots. The plow works great! Too bad it's not a little dryer. The last thing you need is more rain.
