I used my box blade for the first time last weekend and was really proud of myself ... until we got 5+ inches of rain two days later.

I tried to use the information in the many box-blade-how-to threads. First, I put the teeth all the way down and shortened the top link. Next, I tore up my driveway as deep as the teeth would go. Then, I levelled the box and, gradually, smoothed it out. It looked really good. I drove on it several times with my truck, and it compacted a little (1/2 to 1 inch). After all the rain, driving on it left deep ruts (5 to 8 inches).

Did I do something wrong like maybe dig too deep, or did I just get unlucky with the Rain before it was compacted?

What should I do to fix it?

Thanks,

Robert

Is it my imagination, or were there some replies to your post that are now not there any more?

The rain didn't help but what happened is you scarified into whatever you have for a base and brought it to the top. It doesn't sound like you have much surface material. What do you have for surface material? More than likely you're going to need to have a load or two of whatever you want on your driveway hauled in and then spread it. Tearing it up and re-spreading only works when you have a deep sufaced driveway.

Bill,

Your post was only 22 minutes after the thread was started. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

There was a post with the same title a few days ago I think???

It's most likely not your imagination. My account has disappeared twice in the last week. I know the first time was due to a database corruption problem - got an email response from Muhammed. This second time (this past weekend) is probably the same thing.

If you see the name 'Poster', it means someones account is gone!

Maybe that is what I am remembering, a thread that was erased on those two days...

I was erased too. I am sure though that yesterday, some threads that I had read completely, except for the most recent post, were coming up as unread when I looked at them. That, and remembering the post with the same content, well...

Could the poster let us [me I guess] know if he posted this question a second time?

Gary, I'm glad I did not notice the time on that post, or I would have really thought I had a screw loose! Or should that be more than one screw loose? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Gary........isnt really YOU........these durn rains have played havoc with the roads and ditches up here by Calhoun......I recently lost half a load of crusher run that I needed to put the finishing touches on but got chased in by the lightning......I needed to finish the crown on the edges next to the ditches down about 50 yards of my road.......this is on a 15 degree slope..........instead of washing into the ditch, it ran straight down the road about a foot from the ditch where I hadnt finished the edges.......so dont feel bad.......what we both need is not these gully washes but gentle rain to "bond" the gravel..........Dennis

You are absolutely right. This is one of the posts that got lost in the server trouble.

My driveway is red clay with a little gravel mixed in and packed down really well. I was hoping to dig down past the bottom of the pot holes and maybe reclaim some of the gravel that has disappeared.

Perhaps I went a little overboard. Should I try to compact it somehow? Or just put gravel on it?

Dennis,

Where do you teach? I grew up in the Dalton area. My mother taught in Whitfield and Murray County schools.
