Warranty Question

I was having a discussion with a friend about tractors, and the issue of Manufacturer's Warranty came up. I said my Mahindra 3525 came with a 3-year Warranty. Then he asked, "If you sold the tractor after owning it for one year or bought a Mahindra from another owner, would the remaining 24 months on the Power Train Warranty transfer from the original owner to the buyer?"
I could not answer his question. I reviewed the Manufacturer's Warranty sheet, but found nothing about "transfer of warranty". Does anyone know?

When I bought my late-production 2004 Mahindra 4110 (purchased by the original owner in January 2005) in August 2006, I was told by the original selling dealer that the 3-year powertrain warranty was not transferable to me. The warranty paperwork itself is silent on the issue.

I don't know if this has since changed.

The lack of a transferable warranty on any large dollar purchase is enough to give one pause... but once it became clear that the only way I was going to be able to buy a tractor big enough to suit my purposes was to buy used, I really didn't have much choice. The near perfect track record of this particular tractor up to the point of sale was my best insurance. So far, no regrets.

MSWoodlot, according to Mahindra the warranties are transferable from the original date of purchase.

I had a customer ask me recently and I wasn't 100% sure so I called Mahindra's warranty dept. and they say they are transferable.

Very possible. My information is only as told to me by the original owner/seller and the original selling dealer as applicable to my 2004 Mahindra 4110 (originally purchased in Dec 2004/delivered in... and warranty papers dated... Jan 2005). As Sargent Schultz would have said: "I know NUTHING about warranties on Mahindra products for production/calendar years 2005, 2006 and 2007"!

That being said, I'd still want to see it in writing if I were going to rely on it.

fyi, here is the exact wording on the warranty form you get when purchasing a tractor.

"A period of 1 year from the date of original retail sale or date of original use (by the purchaser) or 1,000 hour of operation......etc."

We seem to be talking different things here. The OP asked about transferability upon resale of the 3-year powertrain warranty. That was the only issue I was addressing. I'm not seeing how your quoted text speaks to that issue or transferability of the 1-year comprehensive warranty either.

Then again, I am old and fuzzy.

Sorry, I quoted the 1 year bumper to bumper warranty. It's the same for the 3 year powertrain. Basically it's saying that the tractor is warrantied from the date of original sale regardless if you are the original owner or not.

If the dealer you take it to is not the one who sold the unit it may take them a minute to figure out your retail date and everything unless you have the original warranty paperwork.
