I decided to purchase a new modular home. It is scheduled to be completed and delivered mid-January. My concern is that it will be a real traffic-stopper for everyone who lives out in my area of the neighborhood. I am the last property about 1.8 miles out a single lane access road and for a 1/2 mile of the access, no one will be able to get in or out while the pieces are traveling down the access road. If they don't have any problems, my guess is it could take 30 minutes or so to get through that one stretch.

This will affect about a dozen families, so my thinking is to post up notices around the neighborhood and the community mail box area with my contact information. I have asked the company that is making the modular to give me at least a week's notice and also told them that they can't come down the road at work time or school time. I've also arranged to have a small crew ready with pole saws, chain saws, and a dozer just in case. We are already clearing overhead branches and have made arrangements to drop some fences that may hang us up. Also I will have the Missus and someone else on each end of the road to keep anyone from turning into the road once the transit starts.

So, anyone have any other suggestions that I'm missing?

Any chance of making a turn-out or passing layover? With a couple of handheld walkie-talkies you could hold traffic if needed at those points.

if rural.. i bet your county sheriff might even help out if you give them the courtesy to let them know a rolling roadblock is coming.

Not on the one area of the road Dave. There is only 1-2' of clearance between the fences/trees and the width of the modular pieces. It is really gonna be a tight fit.

Well, that is going to happen by default - one of the neighbors is a County Sheriff.

Sounds reasonable. We have used an email list and picked off times (mid morning) when doing similar things on our road with no issues. Be sure to check low hanging wires and have an insulated pole to lift if needed... Also may help to ask folks to not park on or near the road that day. Is it a public road, or just the residents? On a public road they could force you to hire a police detail, which is costly

I'm sure you checked and/or made provisions for overhead utility lines. If you like your neighbors, a small get together for their patience may pay dividends later.

The mid-morning sounds like the best time I think. Parking on the road is not a problem here - you can't get two vehicles side by side on most of the road, so no one leaves their cars by the road. It is only residents out here unless the power company is coming to read the meter. I am one of the two residents out here who grades the road and bush hogs the side growth, so I know most of the neighbors at least by sight.

I think the delivery guy told me they would have what they needed for the power lines if needed, but I'll check again with them.

Well a little house on maybe 4 axles is a bit small to my experience, but I got about 40 years of hauling things down the road that supposedly didn't fit the road. Best thing you can do is stay out of the process of moving them chunks of house, and let the driver and his crew do their jobs.
Get yourself one of them folding lawn chairs, sit in it and take pictures if that makes you happy, and see how people who move them house chunks every day get it done.
