I've got an older tractor also, R-4 tires weren't offered, nor listed in my owners manual. The newer model to my deere 770 is the 790, but to change to R4 tires using the 790 recommendation I'd have to get new rims. Not a huge problem , but I did a bit of research, found R4 tire that would fit my R3 rims and were the proper mfwd front lead ratio.
The main concern is mfwd ratio and tire rolling circumference. I had to know what my tractors mfwd ratio was before I could be sure a proper front wheel lead ratio.First thing is find out your mfwd ratio. I have to believe that info is somewhere you can find it. With this info finding tires will be fairly easy, not so sure about ease of finding rims, however there are places that can fabricate the proper rims if you are willing to spend a little extra money.
One of the many things I checked out were other mfwd tractors with the same size and type tire mine had, and checked to see if R4's were an option with this other tractor. Even a tractor with mfwd and same R1's the ratio could be different enough that R4's that worked for this horse would be just out of range for yours..need to find your ratio. good luck
