Would like to use a winch on my Toolcat 5600. Ideally would like to be able to move it from front to rear as needed but would settle for rear only use if need be. Would be used primarily for pulling my Toolcat out of holes and other bad spots I tend to get into. Has anybody used a winch on their toolcat? If so, what kind, how much pull, how did you mount it, any way to rig it so it can be used front or rear, did you use Toolcat battery or dedicated battery? Would appreciate any info or ideas.

I haven't, but there's no reason you couldn't have a receiver welded to the front frame and use a receiver mounted winch that you could switch front to rear as needed.

Dang it. You stole my suggestion. I have done this. Just use a piece of 2" tubing and weld a 5/16" plate on top. Make the 2" tubing long enough to be used from either end. This will allow you to use it on the front or back. Can weld on additonal tabs to support a cable roller (fairlead). I would use the TC battery unless you want to make it portable and move it between multiple vehicles.

9000 lb wench would be plenty. 6000 lb may be ok.

If you are going to only use it on the TC, consider a hydraulic wench.

I did the same thing for my Ramsey 8000. 2 in tube, 5/16 plate. Just weld a receiver on the front and back . You can also use it on a tree with a load strap. If you will be pulling for a long duration, I would use an aux battery charged by the TC.

Another Idea I had thought about was to mount a receiver in the bucket, and have two truck batteries providing power to the winch. Your alternator should be able to keep them charged up. Be careful that you don't pull your TC apart.

You could run your forks into the ground at a 45 degree angle, and hook your winch to the forks at ground level.
