Need some oppinions. My dealer sells Wallenstein chippers. What would be the best one for running with both a B2620 and BX2370? I'm thinking no bigger than the BX/BXM 32. I imagine the 42's would be overkill right?

We are cleaning up where we harvest our firewood and making walking/atv trails. Is the shredder worth getting for the extra cost?

Would like to hear your opinions. Thanks.

I have a BX 42 Wallenstein I run with a 2320 JD with 18 PTO HP.
Works good for my needs, but will pull the engine rpms down on long 4" hardwood limb.
Wallenstein is a good well made machine. I've had mine 5 years and no problems at all
Hope this helps

I have been looking over the Wallenstein's for quite some time. I am sure my B2620 would handle the BX 42, but adding the chipper raises the weight substantially-I think the BXM 42 weighs 800lbs-mors weight than I would want on the back of me tractor.

When I had the Wally BX42 it ran on my little Ford 1700. I think it was around 25 hp and it worked just fine. I never had a shredder - I just put it all thru the chipper. The advantage of the 42 is it will take 4" stuff.

I've got the BXM 32. I previously ran it off a JD2305 (18 PTO HP) and now run it with a JD2520 (20 PTO HP). I used it today for assorted maple, cherry, magnolia, and spruce limbs. For the hardwood branches I rarely use the shredder. However, for the spruce limbs, I fed the ~3" butt end of the limb in the chipper throat. As the limb is chipped, the many green boughs along its length built up along the side of the chute. I pulled the limb back and allowed the boughs to fall to the ground. After chipping the rest of the limb, the boughs were dropped into the shredder hopper. Some might say with a bigger chipper I wouldn't have to be so creative, but the BXM32 was about the max for the 2305 that I started with.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Wallenstein units-MHO.

Good Luck.

I have a BXM32 that I run with a Massey 1528 compact. It handles the machine very easily. I am sure I use the chipper-shredder differently than most would. So far I have used it exclusively as a shredder, grinding up chippings which the tree trimmers have already run through their large chippers. I acquire the chippings from them and then shred them further so they can be added as mulch directly to the garden.

The 42 would be OK on the B (would not have enough power for full 4" capacity in hardwood), but probably too big for the BX. I think the 32 would work fine on both tractors.

Thanks for all the oppinions. Think we will go with the BXM 32 as I hadn't even considered the weight of the 42. The 32 would be safer to maneuver on my neighbours BX.
Will be used mostly on maple branches.
