Good News!

I just got off of the phone with AGCO (Massey Ferguson) in Georgia. Massey has decided that the damage to my tractor was a result of the inadequate protection plate and that they will pay for all repairs under warranty! Now this is the mark of a great company! They said this same issue has happened to other customers who bought this tractor and that they are re-tooling to fix the flawed design. I can't thank you fine folks here enough for pushing me to contact Massey in messages both public and private. It saved me over two grand in repair costs! You guys ROCK!

Agree ! ... and if anyone hears of another tractor owner with this issue I will pass on the name of the guy I talked to and his number at MF for them to contact for a resolution.

Does that mean it was not going to be a simple repair, just replacing the nipple? I do give kudos to Massey for covering this, but geez, they are asking for trouble with poor protection, a vulnerable part, and a part that's not easily replaceable. That's like three strikes in one! At least they admit their mistake.

The whole face plate needs to be replaced as the nipple is part of it. This means everything inside the box will be reshimmed as well. 15 hours labor is what the dealer estimates plus the part. Massey did me right by admitting the flawed shield caused the damage. I am very pleased they stepped up!

I guess I won't cuss so much about the filter being up between the transmission housing and the loader subframe on my 1734E

We have mf gc1705 and same problem with filter and nipple breaking off due to poor design of protective shield. Can I get the name of the guy that helped you out w/ getting yours repaired? It's still under warranty and not returning our calls.

On my 1720 the shield is more of a box. BXpanded has a skid plate that others have bought that would cover this. Unfortunate that you had to find out the hard way that the shield itself could be made to cause damage.

Maybe they will give you the box shield like on my 1720. It seems tougher. I made the skid plate (in red) from a Louisiana Tractorworks video. The plate protects the fan, another weak point.
