Well....I drove my wife nuts on our way back from visiting family in SC...needed some measurements from SCUT loaders so I hit 2 LS dealers, what was supposed to be a Kioti dealer (only New Holland on the lot) and the Rural King store in Wytheville, VA which were all in close proximity to I-77/I-81. To start with, I am used to Tractor Supply Company stores in this area of Pennsylvania and you could fit a minimum of 4 TSC stores in this Rural King store it was so big. I was impressed in what little time I had to peruse the aisles and saw a lot of items I would shop for at great prices. Can't wait to get one in my area. Anyways, here is my experience and some pics.

About an hour away from the store I called and asked if someone could check to see if they had any RK24 models in stock as this is the SCUT I needed measurements from and I was going to be in the area soon. The first guy I talked to wasn't really that helpful. He put me on hold while he checked to see if someone was available and then came back on to tell me the "tractor guy" wasn't available (I'm assuming he could have been on lunch) and could I give him my phone # to get a call back. I never got a call back so I'm assuming he didn't followup from there. Not sure. He stated he was just a cashier. For someone asking about a several thousand dollar machine you would think he would have passed me to a manager if the "tractor guy" wasn't available. Once again, a lower paid cashier handling the phone. Lesson here: RK needs to work on training employees to patch the tractor shopper call through to at least a manager.

After 40 minutes transpired and I was 10 minutes from needing to go W on 81 to go to the store instead of E to go home I called again. This time a girl answered the phone and I was connected to the "tractor guy" who was very nice on the phone. He told me they did not have any RK24's to sell in stock and explained he could order one for me and the expected lead time. He then informed me if I could get there before 4pm there was a sold RK24 that was being picked up at 4pm and I could see it (no driving as it was sold) and he would be glad to answer any questions I had about the tractor if that would help. So, once I got the "tractor guy" on the phone he did a great job. Lesson here: If you want to look at a RK tractor you might want to call ahead and make sure they have the model you want to look at and also make sure the "tractor guy" or "tractor girl" is available to assist you.

Pretty much just RK37's in stock. I think a new RK19 was at back of store (could be sold?). 2 new RK37's at back, one RK37 w/backhoe awaiting some type of service I presume

Change out the finish mower for a 48 bush hog and that 24 could have been mine sitting there.

Funnily enough the 19s are taller then the 24s.

It is similar with my local store. They had a few RK55's, all the varieties of the RK37 and a couple of RK19's on the lot when they did the grand opening two weeks ago. The RK55's had all disappeared within days. Apparently a 55 hp tractor for the price others charge for a 40 is a popular offer in these parts. It probably helped that most of them were cab models and it has been hot as blue blazes lately. When I stopped by last weekend they had a couple of RK37's and an RK19 left. The several truckloads of implements they had hauled in for the grand opening had been reduced to a handful of pieces - some 4 ft brush hogs and a few rock rakes were most of what was left - just about picked clean!

Never seen one up close but they are not a bad looking tractor, seems to me it would be like buying a tractor from TSC, not something I would contemplate at this point, maybe down the road I would have more confidence in support but I just don't see it..

I was at the Wytheville store about two weeks ago to test drive a RK55. They only had one 55 in stock, it was ROPS with shuttle shift. Had to leave in a hurry and didn't get to drive it, but hoping by the time I get back they will have a hydro to compare. The tractor guy I talked to on the phone said they were having a hard time keeping any in stock, seems like good news for RK so long as they can build up the supply soon to satisfy the demand.

Personally I'm pretty comfortable with the idea of buying from them. Given the input from their rep here on the site, and the fact that they are privately owned instead of public, and my impression of the big commitment they are making to tractor sales (and more importantly service) I consider it unlikely to be left without support for the duration of the warranty period at least. Compared to working with dealers for other major brands near me, everything about the RK experience (including personal attention from the rep here) has been outstanding.

Here's the thing to remember... Everyone on these threads that have had anything negative to say about RK tractors or service or whatever, don't own an RK tractor. Everyone that does, has nothing but good things to say about them. That has to count for something!

RTBee,

Your post provides an opportunity to express a point long overdue for consumption. There are a select handful of members who have taken every option to negatively criticize
RK w/ seemingly merciless accounts of their terrible experience w/ the store or the certain demise of their tractor brand.

One person felt a lack of LOVE. Well, it is a large operation, and time allotments preclude individual red carpet treatment because you spend a dollar or a thousand. What they do offer is courteous service, and dependable merchandise at very reasonable price points.

Complaints w/ actual substance never materialize. I questioned a few for specifics , Crickets, All mouth, no substance.

It is also notable that no laws exist compelling any consumer to shop there. If dissatisfied, why go.?? Find someplace else to focus your hateful rhetoric.

RK is not perfect, nor have I encountered any Corporate Rep claiming to be so. But the BS constant negative nagging by a select few is now old and tiresome.

I love the worried about support threads. The way dealerships have been disappearing nationwide kills that as an important point. You never know if yours will be the last tractor sold before either the owner or the company shuts the dealerships door.

I've had a few look the tractor over go back in a week and no tractors or sometimes even business on the lot.

True. I drove to one last weekend that was supposed to be an LS dealer. Nothing there, but a padlocked gate and an empty building.
