i have a 60" Land Pride brush cutter. Currently I have it on dollies in the garage so I can move it around. But I won't be using it for the winter and would like to store it vertically.

Anyone done this? I can probably chain it to the wall, cobble together some wood, or even have a metal frame fabled up.

So if someone has made something that works I'd love to see it!

Interesting question. I have seen them stacked around the tractor dealer yard sometimes but have no idea what holds them up vertically. Seems they'd be a fatal hazard if they fell over on someone. Next time I see them standing like that I'm going to stop and see what they have holding them up. Meanwhile, I'm going to watch for answers from others on here that are doing exactly what you're asking. I also have one that I'll not be using for a good long while, and wouldn't mind saving a lot of space.

we receive them standing up, with what looks to be 3"x5" steel tube stands that the cutter is bolted to. they are
maybe 18" long. it doesn't take much of a wind up here to knock them over while stored out back.
depending on how your hitch mast folds, you may or may not be able to use the top portion of the mast
as a support while standing up. then again, if your mast folds down, and you remove your tail wheel and
reduce storage size quite a bit.

If I were going to do it I would grasp it by the 3 pt bracket, lift, and move it over against the wall. About 2/3 the way up run a chain across it screwed onto your framing posts obviously letting it sit on the ground. Not much transverse weight in that position to pull against the chain and a little link chain, 100# rating would be plenty. The name of the game is to keep it vertical. Once the angle starts increasing then you start runing into weight issues.

Mark.

Just lay it up against something. You can put it against a tree, barn..etc not much to it. Just wrap a chain around the braket for the tail wheel and lift it up.

Although I leave my cutter out in the cold, I'm going to respond to this:

1) Remove the tractor half of the PTO drive shaft and spray both halves liberally with a rust preventative.

2) lift the cutter by the tail wheel bracket and prop it against a wall or other vertical structure that has stout anchoring points at least 2/3rds from the floor or ground (if stored on the ground, use 4x4's, cinder blocks or something similar to keep the cutter off the ground).

3) I'd use a binder to hold the cutter in place and install and tighten the binder before unhooking it from the loader (I'm assuming the cutter would be lifted and positioned using the tractor).

I store my cutter against the wall every year, it works great and saves a lot of space in my garage. I just tip it up and use the 3 pt arms to keep it against the wall, I jamb a piece of 4x4 in the floor to hold it tight to the wall.

Make sure as you have it vertical that oil from gear box doesn't leak out of vent.

John Deere ships them lag screwed to 18" long 4x4.

This isn't my picture -- someone else posted it a while ago. A good approach.
