Vermeer 505 Super I

Just bought this baler to replace a JD lost to fire. It's in pretty good shape for its age. Took it to the field for the first time today. Baled a nice tight roll but twine wouldn't start wrapping. How do I know if I have it threaded correctly? I have the owners' manual but it doesn't show a diagram.

Should be a diagram affixed to the underside of the front cover. My b8ddy in SC has one but it's net and he likes it just fine.

Not to sound like a smart a$$. Once you started the tying process do you move ahead into the windrow so the grass coming out of the pickup can catch the twine and start the wrapping? Just a few feet.
