I've turned the tires around on my 1500D for stability and more room. This of course puts the valve stem to the inside making it more difficult to get at. In another thread on repairing rusted rims, someone talked about welding the valve stem hole and then drilling it out. I'm thinking of drilling a new hole so that the valve will be on the outside again (orginally the inside). Has anyone done this? Any comments?

I have also seen valve stem extensions ( both rigid and flexible ) for airing 'dual rim' tires.
Might try this... easier than welding and re-tapping.

Big truck stores will carry this part ( nappa, carquest-maybee , mack truck sales, transcom international ( gear and wheel ).

good luck

Larry, do you have tube type or tubeless tires? In either case that seems like a lot of work for a (to me) very minor inconvenience.

You might consider turning your front wheels back to normal which will save your front end and also cut this problem down to 2 stems. (Saving your front end is the real reason.)

I only turned the rear wheels not the front. I have tubes so won't need to fill the other holes. The reasons I'm thinking of drilling new holes are that the rims have some internal rust (found this well patching an inner tube) so I need to remove the rust and repaint therefore I need to remove the tires anyway. I want to add ballast to the tires and with the stem on the inside this looks like it will be a real pain..
