Hi folks...my Kubota 2650 is over 800 hrs..book says Adjust engine valve clearance. How crucial is this and can i go another 100 hrs..?? like thru winter with little use other than snowplowing..??? thanks

If tractor is running well no power loss or excess smoke, then I agree it is not super critical. Having said that, routine maintenance is to be performed close to the indicated time frame to avoid issues.

If clearances are too tight (which can happen if the valves or seats wear, not that unusual) it'll sound and run fine right up until it burns a valve.

I had my local general mechanic check mine at 1200 hrs. It was still in factory specs. He used the pages from my WSM to make sure he did it right.

I have a B3350 and 750 hrs, this year it seems to take longer to start, (warm weather) Filters are all good, including fuel filter. Valve adjustment? I ask this because my brothers 2650 fires right up, like the old ford straight sixes.

Other problem
Now temps are getting down in the 30’s at night and glow plugs at 45 sec don’t seem to help. Stored in pole barn every night. How do I check the glow plugs?

Valves are easy to do. Did several times on Benz 220D and 240D that we had. On those, I could just rotate those big engines with the cooling fan. Better if you can get a socket on the end of the crankshaft. Just be sure and do it the right direction.

Just check clearances at top dead center. Firing order should be available somewhere so once you find one at top dead center, you'll know which one to look for next.

Just remove the valve cover and use the proper feeler gauge.

Only problem is if an exhaust valve gets too tight. Never saw it happen on the 220D or 240D. Burned a valve on the 240D after it was stored for 4 years, probably due to rust on the valve or seating surface.
