Value of a 12k trailer?

Hope you don’t mind me asking, what’s a good ballpark value of a 12k trailer? It’s 2,200 empty, two 7k axles (8 lug), 80” wide, 18’ long (16’ w/ 2’ beaver tail). Ramps are stored under the rear, has drop down stands, no dents, all electric brakes, & tires looks good & plenty of tread. 2 3/8” cast iron adjustable ball head.

Have you inspected the electric brakes for good working condition?
Not......just do they seem to work,....... but are they in good (inspection) condition?

Have the wheel bearings been removed, and repacked?
Were the wheel bearing seals replaced?

I bought a NEW 14K trailer, because I did not want to inherit trailer maintenance issues.
Trailers are the most maintenance neglected vehicles on our roadways.

Depending on the brand, in many parts of the USA, you can buy a new 18 ft. 12K trailer for about $3,500.
Maybe not so though in WA, or CA.

Kaufmann Trailers (manufacturer) in NC. will ship anywhere in the USA (their own trucks?), and offers great trailer pricing.
You might want to give them a call. (I did not buy from Kaufmann)

Most people don't realize how much of a beating a trailer takes on a regular basis when traveling on not so smooth roads. If somebody even just tows a few hundred miles a year it doesn't take more than 3-4 years to slot the holes in the center pivot and tie straps to the springs on double axle trailers.

Trailer tires are expensive. Motorhome and RV trailers run at close to maximum loads and the rule of thumb is to replace them at 7 years no matter what the tread wear. Those that venture over 7 years with their tires are highly recommended to have annual inspections by a tire expert. If the tires have not be shielded from the sun, UV rays really work on tires. The date code is on every tire. If you are going to be carrying heavy loads beware the age of the tires even if they have no wear at all. It is now apparently a federal law that all new trailers sold have tires no older than 6 months.

About 10 years ago I bought a 2 yr old Hudson 12K as part of a "package deal" and have been following them ever since on Craigs list etc.
I'd say around 2K.


Check tire age closely - if your hauling on the road and have a flat at a bad time it can cost a lot more than having one at home. New good tires versus old good tires could be a $500 difference.
