Tractor
In the market for one.
A dealer near me sells Valtra 600, 700, 800, 900 series tractors along with AGCO Allis tractors. I was interested in the AGCOs and the dealer wanted me to look at the Valtras. I read some post that were dated several months ago about the ValtraValmet tractors. I also have a pamplet the dealer gave me and have looked at the Valtra web site www.valtra.com. I am wanting to know if anyone has one of these tractors or know much about them. I would like some first hand information about them.

Thanks in advance, Owen

They are very well built quality tractors. In most places they sell for more than the major brands, and are one of the only brands gaining sales in the places they are sold.Valmet was the first tractor manufacter to be granted ISO certification. The option list is staggering, and they have 9 colors to pick from, with three of them being metallic! The series you are looking at is the entry level one(not to say that it economy or any less durable than the others)with the bigger series offering even more options.Valmet engines are used by: Steyr,M/F A/A,and others.Basically they are Finnish engineering at it's best!

Well it seems like there is a bit of dodgy advertiseing going on here, personally I beleive valtra are nothing special, infact many of there own ideas were already being used by other tractor manufacturers, and quite frankly, I dont think I have ever seen a tractor so ugly, ever single 1 of them!!!!!!!!

I don't think that the ValtraValmets are all that ugly. They are rather expensive though. They cost more than the other big name colors. I am In the market to buy a 60hp tractor in May or June. As of now, I am leaning towards an AGCO Allis 5660, even though they are not the prettiest tractor on the market. They do however have a 4 year/4000 hour warranty and a lot of 3 point hitch lifting capacity. They seem hard to beat.

Owen,where are you at?

Hmmmm....... that's interesting that Valmets are more expensive than the majors. Up here I priced a loaded 6300 Mezzo with every option(Twin-Trac,Hy-Trol,Delta Powershift, side exhaust,etc...)and with all these options it still came in $5000-10,0000 CDN cheaper than comparable CaseIH,Deere,NewHolland,Massey, etc without alot of the options found on the Valmet. A poster on another board from somewhere in the states also said he found them cheaper. He was quoted a 900 with a/c and a good quality loader for around $40,000 USD or so. As always check around at other dealers,no matter what it is you are looking for.Sometimes the price flucuations will suprise you!

Owen:
We have a 1995 model 6600 [Mezzo series,105hp,Twin Trac,Delta Power shift,HyTrol clutch] with over 14000 hours that does our field crop work and operates in the woods the rest of the time. When I first switched to Valmet I was impressed with it's operator comfort, engineering, fuel effeciency, traction, and power. Today I would add durability as the main feature! With regular maintainence we have done only minor repairs. The 6600 still works and looks like a low hour tractor and remember it does very demanding work. Dealer support has been great.
In Nova Scotia there are many 100 series Valmets doing work similiar to my 6600 and their owners would rate them the same.
I hope you will find this helpful.

I disagree with you! I am most familiar with the 6000 and 8000 series and if any thing it appears their engineering has been copied by others except for quality that may be harder to copy. As for looks-well it's personal taste and maybe you better compare how high hour Valmets hold their "youthful appearance".

Woodbeef and Jim B.
Thanks for your first hand accounts of the Valmets. I am very far away from you all. I am in Alabama. The 60 hp Valment I talked to a dealer about was around $4,000 more than a Kubota or AGCO of the same hps, but I believe the Valmet came with a cab and a lot of extras while the other did not have the cab and were standard models. I am sure that a cab is much more important for you all than it is for me here in Bama. Thanks again for the info.

Ahhh....That explains it then!

You were comparing a much heavier built tractor to ones of lighter duty construction(check out the Valmet brochure for forestry applications),along with cabbbed vs. uncabbed. The cab is probably worth around at least $7,500.00 or so.If you have time go back and see what one with out the cab is worth then compare it to the other two. Also remember the Agco is really a badge engineered Same(built in Italy by Same Deutz-Fahr),that is 2 or 3 series behind what Same sells today.

Re: Thanks

Woodbeef,
Thanks for your information. I will check out the ValtraValmets closely before I buy. The dealer that carries them around here has a good reputaion, and right now I have a lot more time than money. I hope to buy something in the spring: If the tractor fund is of sufficent size by then.
