I wanted to post this today so I can help anyone with this snow caster to save money on V belts.
I installed the Gates Series 1 Kevlar reinforced A116 V belt on the snow blower last year along with a new plastic pulley.
I left the snow blower outside like I always do and I can happily report the V belt was worth the money. I bough two of them from an Amazon retailer for less than fifty dollars with shipping. I had no issues getting rid of the heavy wet snow we had on Friday
The V belt tracked well and turned when it began to enter the drive pulley after it left the first guide pulley but it returned to normal-Vee upright when it entered the second guide pulley on the return to the drive pulley at the end of the snow blower frame then it traveled back to the driven pulley with the Vee of the belt horizontal a short distance after it left the second guide pulley.
SO if anyone is interested they no longer have to buy the expensive $140.00 USD Driven belt for the JD 47 inch snow caster.
All you need is the Gates Series 1 A116 V belt.
Sorry John Deere but not really one bit as this thing has cost me a fortune to own and use where a single stage unit is just numb and dumb and chain driven.
If I have to replace the worm to spur gearbox on my snow thrower it would be almost $600.00 plus shipping depending on the supplier and the cross augers were almost $600.00 each.
And "JD" don't tell me that the vertical crankshaft B&S engines would not be able to power a single stage as all that would be needed is a second set of snubber pulleys to drive the high speed Pulley to power the 90 degree bevel to bevel gearbox mounted on the snow blower frame to rotate the snow blower rotor with the chain drive mounted on the exterior of the snow blower.
The old John deere lawn tractors had single stage snow throwers just like my old 1967 cub cadet 112 did.
At least I do not have to put up with "You Get What You Pay For" from the dealer I bought the tractor and parts from.
