My first cruise was on the USS America... Yep, did the ditch twice... messdecks were horrible, lived on peanut bars after standing in line for hours to buy a case... used to eat breakfeast at 1900 hours... Best job I ever had in the Navy working for a CAG staff... Never carried a cruise box (Squadrons provided working party)... Lead on to greater things in the Navy... I was spoiled... left as a first class PO to VC-5 in the PI... Next tour was NAS Cubi Point RP (yes back to back tours in the Philippines)... Left the PI as a Chief and all was great for the next ten years! VA-155, VA-128, USS Carl Vinson... Retirement! Never painted in the Navy, never carried a cruise box in the Navy, never went mess cooking or what ever in the Navy... Dam, they sunk my ship in 2005!
