After the flooding tore out all my new high tensile 2 strand electric fencing(even took out the 6-8" pressure treated posts that were pounded into the ground). I am going to use temporary 2 strand electric 1" tape. I need 1200' so about 100 posts. Pricing it all, and I have had experience with those plastic posts that have the tape insulator built in...they are junk. I like the PremeierOne FiberTuff posts, but 40" ones are $8.90 EACH. Next is the 1/2" in diameter fiberglass posts with insulators @ $2 each.

Then I had an idea...what about 48" 5/16ths inch diameter fiberglass driveway marker posts? Add these insulators for another $100 and I have all of them for under $200. I read a thread here that guys are getting several years out of them. Since mine will be used only about 6 months each year, I think they would work. Easy to make a driver for them, & my bottom land pasture usually stays pretty soft even during drought.

Am I crazy, or do the farmers get ripped off severely with products marketed for cattle/goats/horses/sheep vs other industries?

I did that around a garden, using "string" instead of tape. It worked with no problems.

i wonder how long distance tape fencing would stand up to a hard wind.

Wind loading with tape on small fiberglass posts will bow them severely.
Fiberglass shouldn't need insulators, when we use poly wire on fiberglass we just do a loop or two around the post.
One thing to be aware of with fiberglass post is the hair that gets loose on the posts when pulling them or pushing them into the ground good leather gloves are a requirement otherwise you will end up with fiberglass splinters in your hands and fingers. They are very irritating and about impossible to remove or see.

Thanks, I agree...no real need for insulators, except that the post is round, kinda hard to get tape to stay put. I also found the insulators listed above for half that price.
Yes, these are 5/16ths, so a little bit bigger in diameter than 1/4"...might not be strong enough.

I have used 1/2” rebar stakes. They make a plastic insulator that attaches to rebar and hold the electric string or tape.

I use them on my gun range for distance marking. 10' 15' 20' 30' 40' 50' 100 yards, 150 yards out to 500 yards. My cows get on the range and they break a bunch of them every time. No wire or any thing attached to them.
